There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into a newborn session. To make these incredibly important portrait sessions successful I have a few tips for you to follow, to make the best out of our newborn session.

Taco pose

  • Lets pencil you in!
It is best to contact Forever Pixels Photography when you are in your second trimester to secure a date in our calendar. Forever Pixels only has so many booking per calendar month, do it’s important to book ahead.
I love when clients are scheduled well in advance, but if you have already had your baby – that is totally fine ! Id still love to hear from you and get those portraits done.
  • The baby is here!
Dad’s (& or Mum’s)  – Put Forever Pixels on the all important call list once baby arrives! An email will suffice 😉
It is so important for our newborn session to have it scheduled between 4-10 days new. Forever Pixels Style is beautiful curly, sleepy babies. Between these ages, baby is usually sleepy enough to be moved and molded in adorable poses.
  • Session location
Newborn sessions take place in our home studio that is located in West Wodonga. It is cosy and you will feel right at home !
There is a range of props, layers, bonnets tiebacks, teeny outfits all sourced from top suppliers in Australia and worldwide. You’re more than welcome and in fact encouraged to choose how you would like your session styled (with the items i have), and we will be discussing this once bubs is born! But of course if your comfortable with Bec to design your session that is no problem.
If you have a special item/family heirloom, by all means, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to incorporate it.
The studio will be toasty warm – dress light – It’s ok if you need to leave the room if it gets too warm. Bring along a nice cool drink!
  • Patience is key!
Newborn sessions can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. It all depends on baby’s mood and willingness to sleep. Unfortunately…this isn’t something we can predict! Try not to stress or worry too much if baby isn’t sleeping! Babies can usually pick up on our anxiety. And if  sleep doesn’t happen, that’s okay! Wide-eyed newborn photos are beautiful too.
Something else to note – Sometimes, it can take 30-60 mins for bubs to fall into a deep sleep from the start of our session. I’m pretty patient and am happy to go with the flow.
Mums be aware of what you are eating for dinner the night before our session – avoid gassy foods!

Blue baby boy

  • Here is a good one …. Relax !
Relaaaax – Your baby is in safe hands! Bec has had years of experience reading baby’s cues, and posing newborn safely.
Not all Mum’s – and this might not have happened – i don’t know – but think its important to add – Mum’s if all isnt going according to plan… baby is fussy or taking some time to settle, try not to stress & Relax 🙂 We will take babys lead, feed, cuddle, wrap, sing, sway.  In fact – most of our session will be feeding, changing, settling.
  • Whoopsies – Those little accidents
I can almost guarantee your baby will “go” during your time in the studio. Don’t worry! It is OK!! Everything is washed after each newborn session anyway – so It will be added to the pile of washing sooner rather than later .
